Back in the 1930s, Ruth Wakefield, owner of the Toll House Inn in Whitman, Massachusetts, invented chocolate chip cookie dough by adding chopped chocolate to her standard butter cookie dough.
And just like that, the Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookie was born.
There is some question around the details and actual chain of events as to whether this addition of chocolate happened on purpose, or by lucky accident.
But all we can think is, does it really matter? Thank you Ruth for the invention, regardless of how it came about!
The results were, and continue to be, spectacular and enjoyed daily by people all around the world.
