Old-Fashioned Sour Cream Cookies

Easy to make old-fashioned sugar cookies that include sour cream and raisins.

These easy Sour Cream Drop Cookies are soft cakey cookies that are simple, delicious, and satisfying - the kind that Grandma used to make.

Sour Cream Cookies Recipe

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 1/2 cups raisins
  1. Position an oven rack in the center of the oven and preheat to 375F degrees. Line 2 or 3 baking sheets with parchment paper for best results. Otherwise, use ungreased cookie sheets.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, stir together the flour, baking soda, salt, and nutmeg with a spoon or whisk until well blended.
  3. In a large bowl beat together the butter and sugar with an electric mixer on medium speed until light and creamy. Scrape down the sides of the bowl with a rubber spatula if necessary to make sure the mixture is well blended.
  4. Add the eggs and beat well.
  5. Add the flour mixture alternatively with the sour cream until everything is blended.
  6. Stir in the raisins.
  7. Drop the dough by teaspoonfuls on baking sheet spaced at least 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake one cookie sheet at a time in the center of the oven until set, about 7 minutes.
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool for a couple of minutes, then transfer the cookies on wire racks to cool completely.

This recipe makes about 5 dozen Sour Cream Cookies

Testimonials

"I have been researching and trying a number of recipes to make a healthy cookie similar to one that our Gym coffee shop sells for $3.50! This particular recipe was adapted so instead of bars I made thick round cookies and cooked them just underdone so they were soft and chewy. They were a hit with all the girls. Thanks for the great recipe."
