Quest for the Best Chocolate Chip Cookie

In 2008, ForbesTraveler.com posted an article in which it named 11 bakeries in America which may produce the Best Chocolate Chip Cookie. Have you ever visited any of these bakeries and tasted their chocolate chip cookies?

  • Firehook Bakery, Washington, DC
If you're in the D.C. area, don't miss these made-from-scratch chocolate chip cookies at Firehook, which has been serving up perfectly chewy, heaven-sent chocolate chip cookies since 1992.
  • Levain Bakery, New York, NY
Weighing in at six ounces each, Levain's elephantine chocolate chip cookies are gooey, delicious and perfect for sharing.
  • Macrina Bakery, Seattle, Washington
Organic and natural ingredients are used whenever possible, and "Olivia's Chocolate Chip Cookies" stay close to the original chocolate chip recipe for a quintessential American treat.
  • Marnee's Cookies, Bath, Maine
Marnee's cookies somehow manage to be both chewy and crunchy at once, and are well deserving of their name, "Nirvana".
  • Pearl Bakery, Portland, Oregon
Notable among Pearl's offerings are the buttery handcrafted chocolate chunk cookies made fresh every morning made with locally produced butter and dairy products and flour grown on sustainable wheat farms in Washington.
  • Rene's Bakery, Indianapolis, Indiana
This must-try Broad Ripple institution was established by chef and owner A. Rene Trevino in March 2004 and has since developed a cult-like following for her mouthwateringly delicious chocolate chip cookies, made with walnuts.
  • Rosie's Bakery, Boston, MA
These hand-made cookies are packed with high quality ingredients including decadently rich chocolate, creamery butter, and unbleached flour, and no chemicals or preservatives are used to guarantee a fresh cookie-indulging experience.
  • Sweet Adeline Bake Shop, Berkely, California
Sweet Adeline's has a reputation for devour-worthy chocolate chip cookies made in small batches and the oatmeal chocolate chip version will satisfy those with a craving for a denser treat.
  • Tartine Bakery, San Francisco, California
The mouthwatering chocolate chip cookies from Tartine Bakery are made with high-quality, fresh, local ingredients including—oatmeal and walnuts—at this prized bakery in San Francisco's Mission District—chocolate chip cookies that stand out above the rest.
  • Tates Bake Shop, Southhampton, NY
On the crispy front, Tate's Bake Shop reigns with insanely buttery, wafer-thin chocolate chip cookies.
  • Tom's Mom's Cookies, Harbor Springs, Michigan
These irresistible cookies are stuffed with pieces of hand-cut semi-sweet chocolate and are terrifically the most popular variety they sell.

Testimonials

"I have been researching and trying a number of recipes to make a healthy cookie similar to one that our Gym coffee shop sells for $3.50! This particular recipe was adapted so instead of bars I made thick round cookies and cooked them just underdone so they were soft and chewy. They were a hit with all the girls. Thanks for the great recipe."
